With a yearly check either by yourselves or a professionals like Southern Cross Roofing a lot of cost and stress can be avoided. Generally speaking at a minimum even to clean out the leaves from the gutters and eaves can help the maintenance of the roof. The pictures around tell the story. I know I would prefer to be paying a roofer a small sum once a year than to have to fork out a huge amount in having a whole re-roof done. This neglect brought the whole roof crashing down.

Thats why its is so important to clear the leaf debris on a regular basis. If you are thinking of getting a professional in once a year which is highly recommended then give Southern Cross Roofing a call they will insure they let you know when its time to invest in your roof with new gutters, tiles or eaves and when repairs are needed. Visual Checks For Damaged Roofs

Thursday, May 05, 2011
Visual checks should be carried out regularly to spot any potential developing problems to the roof which, if left unchecked could prove expensive to fix.

From the outside of the house visually study the roofs ridge capping, if you see signs of deterioration such as loose or missing ridge capping or cement loosening, it’s a sure sign you need to call in a professional roofing expert to further assess the problem and advise on the necessary roof repairs that are needed.

Also, try walking around the home checking underneath the roofs eaves. If under the eaves show any signs of water stains it could be an indication of blocked gutters or damaged roof tiles and should be investigated immediately to once again avoid expensive roof repairs that could develop if left unchecked.

In and around Sydney you are invited to call Southern Cross Roofing for friendly advice on how to approach any problems you may have detected with your roof.

Classic Copper Roofs

Friday, April 29, 2011
Add a classic touch to your house by installing copper roofs. Copper roofing has been famous mostly in European countries during the eighteenth century. It is also used in different heritage buildings around Australia. This particular type of roof is lightweight and durable for the most part. It can endure high winds and is very resistant against fire. It is easy to install and not a hassle to measure and paste. This is because the copper roof is capable of being installed right over the roof instead of step-by-step measuring and trimming, unlike other typical roof types.

The major downfall of the copper roof however, is that it is very expensive. Yes, this is not the roof for those who are not willing to spend much. However, do not be discouraged by just the roofing’s cost. Asphalt shingles are cheap and durable, why can’t I just use that? The answer is that a copper roof can last for more decades than other roofs, provided it is maintained simultaneously along with the house. Also, when this type of roof loses its luster and durability, fear not for it is reusable, recyclable, and can be turned into other things.

In short, copper roofs are right for monumental structures and could be used by home owners too, if they’re confident on their home’s lifespan as much as the roof so it wouldn’t go to waste. It can be salvaged and reused if the house it covers becomes obsolete, and don’t be afraid to pay for the price because copper roof’s benefits exceeds its cost. So, if you are looking for something that’s not a burden to install and something that will last, and provided you have extra cash on hand, then copper roof is just for you.

Galvanized Roofing for Sydney Homes

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Chemical bonding is probably one of the most boring subjects at school, but I have to thank it because it paved way for the making of one of the most innovative roof types in the roof market today. Galvanization is the process wherein a certain metal, particularly made of steel, is combined and added with another metal layer. In the roofing world, the result of this fusion is galvanized metal roofing. Galvanized metal roofs consist of a layer of protective zinc combined with a sheet of steel metals like iron and aluminum. This combination is done in order to prevent rusting and corrosion which makes this roof very efficient for roofing uses.

For residents living along the Sydney area, using galvanized metal roof in their house is very much suggested. Why? Simply because the process that these roofs have undergone made them more reliable in giving home owners protection from problems associated with Sydney’s extreme weather conditions. Indeed, galvanized metal roof is very durable and sturdy but it does not end there. This kind of roof is usually lightweight so major foundation is not a must, although a strong foundation is always better. It is heat and fire resistant as well. The materials for this roof are not combustible and they also reflect away heat which gives the house less hot atmosphere. Once galvanized metal roof is properly installed on your house, you will not need to spend much for maintenance expenses because it can stand erected and fully functioning even with just minimal maintenance.

If you are having problems on choosing the perfect roof for your house, add galvanized metal roof to your choices. It is one of the most durable, flexible and up-to-date roof types which give modern houses an ingenious touch.

A Simple Guide In Choosing New Roof

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

One of the basic needs of human is shelter. House is the number one provider of this. However, a house cannot be called a house if it has no roof, mainly because, the roof protects not just its inhabitants, but every other bits and pieces of furniture under it. Sydney is one place where external factors like weather highly affect the living of people, thus, choosing a perfect new roof is a very critical thing to ponder on by its residents, or those who plan to reside in Sydney. Here are some simple tips to keep in mind when choosing a new roof system

First, a buyer must have a picture of what type of roof he wants for his house. There are many types of roof out there that a buyer can choose from. Roof experts just can’t stop innovating new roofs for the new generation.

Second, a buyer must choose a roof layout and pattern that he wants. Roofs, basically, are expected to last for years and years, so one must wisely choose the style that will fit his taste because a roof is not just some kind of accessory that can be bought and replaced when it’s not that fashionable anymore.

Third, a buyer must research on different kinds of roof coverings and materials that will be used in construction. There are various roof materials available and each has distinct features.

Fourth, review all the steps and consider the quality which includes durability and structure of the roof and roof materials, the benefits that the buyer can over cost and expenses he will incur, the building installation requirements, and the right roof contractors.

If you are planning to have a new roof constructed, you can contact us at 94777961.

Repairs

Monday, January 31, 2011

Thornleigh area 25 October 2010

Southern Cross Roofing receive many calls for repairs to roofs, not always due to leakage, some times clients just want their roof overalled, cleaned or like a recent Thornleigh customer who could see his roof was looking a little drab, just requested a complete check over. He decided upon having the Terracotta roof tiles cleaned, new valley irons installed, cement work redone and a new front porch, as this was found to be in very poor condition. This action by the customer no doubt saved his roof from leaks and internal damage to ceilings.

The work consisted of removing all the ridge caps and valley irons. Fixing new colour bond valley irons in place, new cement which not only re secures the ridge caps but also reseals them against leaks or at the very least dampness. The terracotta tiles were an old Wunderlich tile that were cleaned with a power Gurney, they came up sparkling and the new bedding and pointing (cement work) makes the roof look like new. The front veranda has new colour bond clip lock roof sheets, with all new flashings to seal against leakage.

All the gutters were cleaned out thoroughly and with all rubbish removed you wouldn’t know we had been there, other than the sparkling roof.

The customers action has given him peace of mind for many years to come, it costs nothing to have your roof checked out, as all quotes are free.

Visit our website or give us a call and have your roof overalled.

Reroof Extension

Monday, January 31, 2011

St Ives

A new roof is near completion at the above address. This is a upper storey extension with some minor structural roof changes. The roof to the upper storey has all new Terracotta Swiss tiles, manufacture being Boral. The lower roof has reused the existing Swiss tiles salvaged when the upper storey was built. The clear lines to the valleys and clean lines of the hips make this roof aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Also the clever use of salvaged tiles has made a significant saving, our client has not had to pay out for a complete new roof.

This re-roof / roof extension in the Sydney North Shore area highlights what possibilities are available with a little thought. A visit is worth while if you are in the market for a new roof or indeed thinking along the same lines as the owners. Roof should be finished 23 October.
